HiRISE images for May 27, 2009

The following new images taken by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter spacecraft are now available:

• Small Valleys and Colorful Bedrock in Terra Cimmeria
  This image shows a network of small valleys in the Terra Cimmeria region of the Martian southern highlands. This location is approximately 1000 kilometers (600 miles) south of Gusev Crater, the landing site of the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit.
• South Pole Residual Cap Features: Swiss Cheese Terrain
  This image represents a Martian terrain containing 'Swiss cheese' features. This terrain is found only within the residue of the southern polar cap, which comprises of mostly frozen carbon dioxide and water.
• Dark Dust Devil Tracks in Bright Crater Floor in Southern Noachis Region
  This image is located in a crater in the Hellespontus region that displays dunes and dust devil tracks.
• Large Cluster of Small Craters Near Maadim Vallis
