Just as the Hubble servicing mission began, the Hubble folks bid fair well to what has become a familiar piece of equipment, to them and us, the Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 or WFPC2.
To commemorate the decommissioning of the WFPC2, the Hubble team released this one last image from the camera. The image shows the planetary nebula K - 4-55.
Today Mike Good and Mike Massimino will be outside repairing the Imaging Spectrograph and installing a new outer layer blanket on that particular door.
The repair of the Imaging Spectrograph will demand attention to detail. Imagine wearing gloves and having to remove (and replace) 111 screws without losing or misplacing any. The spacewalkers do have spares just in case.
