HiRISE images for December 2, 2009

The following new images taken by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter spacecraft are now available:

• Dusty Top of Alba Patera Volcano
  This HiRISE image shows a small portion of the rim of the caldera at the top of the volcano Alba Patera.
• Floor of Kasei Valles
  This HiRISE image shows a wonderfully complex surface on the floor of this ancient flood-carved canyon.
• Flows in Athabasca Valles Source Region
  Thin flows cover the plains just north of the source region for the Athabasca Valles channel system.
• Lobate Debris Apron in Tempe Terra/Mareotis Fossae
  This image shows a portion of a large lobate debris apron along the bottom of a hill in the Tempe Terra/Mareotis Fossae region of Mars.
• Different Types of Gullies
  This image covers parts of two different craters, both with gullies in the inner walls. Gullies are a popular target because their formation is still being debated.
