Mars Odyssey THEMIS images - July 6-10, 2009


The following new images taken by the Thermal Emission Imaging System (THEMIS) on the Mars Odyssey spacecraft are now available:
  • Nirgal Vallis (Released 6 July 2009)
    This VIS image shows a portion of Nirgal Vallis and a scalloped tributary channel.
  • Holden Crater (Released 7 July 2009)
    This daytime infrared image shows the dissection of the rim of Holden Crater by numerous channels.
  • Polar Layers (Released 8 July 2009)
    The numerous layers of the south polar cap are shown in cross-section in this VIS image.
  • Dust Devil Tracks (Released 9 July 2009)
    The plains of Planum Chronium shown in this VIS images are covered by hundreds of dust devil tracks.
  • Rabe Crater (Released 10 July 2009)
    This daytime infrared image of Rabe Crater illustrates the warming effect of the sun on sand.
